Become a Volunteer With Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services

Help support older adults, caregivers, and community programs across Haldimand and Norfolk Counties.

Make a Difference in Your Community

Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services relies significantly on volunteers to deliver the variety of services and programs offered by our organization.

Volunteer roles vary by program. Opportunities may include transportation, meals delivery, Diner’s Club support, friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, adult day program support, hospice palliative care outreach, fundraising and special events, and board service. To join as a volunteer, please complete a volunteer application form. Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services staff will review applications and respond by phone or email. All volunteers must complete service-specific onboarding before they begin. This may include an interview, reference check, training, and a clear police record check. Volunteer Opportunities

Support seniors in your community by joining one of our volunteer programs. Choose a role that fits your interests and availability.

Transportation

Provide door-to-door transportation for clients to attend adult day programs, medical appointments, rehabilitation sessions, errands, social programs, and more.

 

Local in-town trips are provided, as well as non-local destinations such as Niagara, Hamilton, Toronto, and London. Volunteers can decide if they would like to provide transportation locally, non-locally, or both.

Meals on Wheels

H-NCSSS collaborates with long-term care facilities, hospitals, restaurants, and catering companies in the region that prepare and package the individual meals.


Volunteers pick up meals from the providers and deliver them to clients homes. Delivery routes are provided by H-NCSSS and the meals are transported in provided thermal bags.

Diner's Club

Diner's Club is a monthly congregate dining program offered to H-NCSSS clients in many of the towns throughout Haldimand-Norfolk.


Volunteers assist with preparing food, beverages, table setting, serving, and clean up.

Friendly Visiting

Offer companionship and conversation to clients living alone or socially isolated through regular visits, fostering meaningful connections.

Telephone Reassurance

Make regular phone calls to clients living alone to check on their wellbeing and provide social support and reassurance.

Adult Day Program

The H-NCSSS Adult Day Program (ADP) is for individuals living with disabilities, Aphasia, Parkinson’s, MS, Alzheimer’s, and related dementias. ADP provides client-centered activities to enhance the social, cognitive, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of clients.

 

Volunteers assist ADP staff with daily programming (i.e. activities, one-to-one time, lunch prep).

Hospice Palliative Outreach

The Hospice Palliative Care Outreach team of volunteers, led by the Hospice Outreach Regional Coordinator are all screened, trained, and educated to provide support to individuals who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, as well as support for their loved ones and caregivers.


Volunteers assist with programs including:

  • Care Planning and Consent
  • Client Support
  • Caregiver Support
  • Volunteer Provided Respite
  • Grief and Bereavement Support Groups
  • safeTALK Suicide Alertness Training

Fundraising & Special Events

Help organize, sell tickets, set up, host, man booths, and take down for community fundraisers and special events that support Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services programs.
